Maison Forget
Construite en 1735, la maison Forget est l’un des bâtiments patrimoniaux les plus importants de l’île Jésus. Occupée pendant sept générations par la même famille et marquée par la présence de figures influentes au XIXᵉ siècle, elle témoigne d’un riche héritage historique et d’un fort lien avec le territoire. Son architecture, caractérisée par des murs en pierre des champs et un toit ponctué de lucarnes à pignon, reflète les techniques de construction du Régime français et le caractère rural du site.
Built in 1735, the Forget House is considered one of the most significant heritage buildings on Île Jésus. Occupied by seven generations of the same family and associated with influential figures during the 19th century, it reflects a rich historical legacy and a strong connection to the surrounding territory. Its architecture, defined by fieldstone walls and a roof punctuated with gabled dormers, embodies the construction techniques of the French Regime and the rural character of the site.

Le projet vise à restaurer et agrandir la demeure dans une approche contemporaine respectueuse de son identité. Les interventions privilégient la sobriété afin de préserver l’authenticité du bâtiment tout en répondant aux besoins actuels des occupants. L’agrandissement se distingue volontairement de la maison d’origine par une volumétrie compacte et un langage architectural épuré, affirmant son époque sans nuire à l’intégrité du patrimoine existant.
To minimize its environmental footprint, the cabin is elevated on galvanized steel piles that preserve the natural vegetation and allow rainwater to flow naturally across the site. The project meets Novoclimat standards and received LEED Gold certification thanks to its high-performance envelope and sustainable approach.
Implantée en retrait et légèrement de biais par rapport à la maison historique, l’extension crée une cour intime entre les deux volumes. La résidence restaurée accueille désormais des espaces de bureau, d’atelier, de salon et de cuisinette, tandis que l’ajout regroupe les chambres, la cuisine, la salle à manger et les espaces de séjour.
Positioned slightly back and at an angle from the historic house, the extension creates an intimate courtyard between the two volumes. Following the restoration, the original residence now accommodates office spaces, a workshop, a lounge, and a kitchenette, while the new addition contains the bedrooms, kitchen, dining area, and living spaces.
Située en bordure de la rivière des Mille-Îles au cœur d’un paysage agricole, la maison bénéficie d’un lien privilégié avec la nature environnante. Les espaces de vie s’ouvrent sur la rivière et les champs, créant un dialogue harmonieux entre patrimoine, architecture contemporaine et paysage.
Located along the Rivière des Mille-Îles within an agricultural landscape, the house maintains a strong relationship with its natural surroundings. The living spaces open toward both the river and the fields, creating a harmonious dialogue between heritage, contemporary architecture, and landscape.
